The following articles about the internal workings of Oracle were researched using the Block Viewer for Oracle. I hope you will find these articles to be useful in your work as a professional database administrator or application developer. Of course, these are placed here primarily to help promote our Block Viewer for Oracle product, but I am sure much can be learned from reading the articles alone. It is hoped that this will be the start of a forum that will blossom into a wide range of questions and answers that can best be found by directly viewing the data as Oracle stores it on disk.

I have set up askscott@tlingua.com to take requests for these and other areas you may find of interest as well as any comments, good or bad, you may have on the articles already written. Although we have a long (15 year) history with the various Oracle file formats, none of us are employees of Oracle Corporation and all the information contained in these articles and in our product has been discovered through trial and error. As such the information contained herein will certainly contain errors. Please tell me when you find such errors so that we may all benefit from their correction. If you like/permit your corrections can be posted here and attributed to you.
If you find these articles to be of value, please spread the word - word of mouth, e-mail, and most importantly, postings on other Oracle forums. The best way to promote this forum and our products is by professional database administrators and application developers such as yourself posting links to this site on other forums.

Enjoy,

Scott
